LBR

Leaves by Roots was founded in 2021 with a vision to bring high-quality food to train stations, with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. We like to see food as a bridge between cultures. At Leaves by Roots you find a lively mix of cultures where people are all working to make delicious, affordable and healthy food that respects our planet.

Group 3

We want an equal, sustainable and inclusive society where newcomers are able to contribute by using their talents.

Planting the seeds

Leaves by Roots (LBR) was born in 2021 out of LBR founder Rami’s personal experience. During the time he worked at KLM, he often struggled to find nutritious, healthy food options at train stations on his way home from work. Rami decided to take matters into his own hands and founded a concept to offer good food to travelers whilst promoting Syrian cuisine in the Netherlands. Soon after the launch, Rami partnered with NS, who were very excited about the concept. LBR also joined the Startup Launch program at the StartHub at the VU, gaining the tools and knowledge to develop the business. Through the StartHub, they were introduced to DOEN, Oranje Fonds, and Rabobank Foundation, the company’s financial partner. These organizations are the soil of this initiative. As the company grew, it received several awards for its innovative concept and social impact, such as Entrepreneurs Made for Change at Triodos bank and the Beste Nieuwkomer Spotlight Award, and got listed in the Food100.

Our mission

Our core values guide every decision we make, from the ingredients we choose to the partnerships we forge. Our mission is clear: to make healthy, sustainable food accessible to everyone while empowering our team members and partners to be a positive force in society.
As a newcomer-led initiative, we understand the challenges facing those new to our communities, especially when accessing meaningful employment. That’s why we’re committed to working with status holders who experience a great distance from the job market. Leaves by Roots celebrates cultural diversity, using food as a universal language that brings people together.
